Note: Similar ring designs are pictured in Traditional Jewelry of India, by Oppi Untracht, p. 30. Untracht states that pavitram rings were traditionally made of grass for use in Hindu Brahmanic ceremonies and on auspicious occasions. Any pavitram ring can be used as an amulet to frighten away evil spirits (pp. 29-30).
