Carved Mahogany, Mahogany Veneer, and Bird's-eye Maple-inlaid Sofa, Salem, Massachusetts, c. 1810, with shaped cresting centering a bird's-eye maple panel bordered by crossbanding and stringing, the molded scrolling arms on vase- and ring-turned reeded and fluted swelled supports continuing to legs joined by a bowed seat rail, refinished, ht. 37 1/2, wd. 75, dp. 27 in.

Back drilled with two dozen or so holes, probably for an upholstering purpose. Central panel to back broken out and nailed back in. Added rail at lower part of arms, likely again for purposes of upholstery. All would be hidden under new upholstery.
