Description:
Carved Mahogany and Cedar Side Chair, Bermuda, 18th century, with scroll-carved crest rail, vasiform splat, cane seat, and cabriole legs ending in pad feet joined by a flat shaped stretcher, ht. 38 1/2, seat ht. 17 1/2 in.
Estimate $700-900
Generally good structural condition. There is evidence of some repair and patching to the seat frame and the base of the stiles where the seat frame fits. The seat frame is actually pinned into the back of the chair, which may not be an original feature of the chair, and is screwed into the frame at the front and the sides from underneath. There are some other minor things as well - a crack to the splat near the top, a missing glue block under the stretcher, etc.
