Silver Porringer, William Holmes, Boston, Massachusetts, late 18th century, slightly flared rim on a bulbous body with "WH" mark on the interior, pierced scroll handle with engraved initials "HP," approx. 7.9 troy oz., lg. 8 1/8, dia. 5 1/2 in.
Literature: Referenced in Florence Virginia Berger and George Munson Curtis, American Church Silver of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, with a Few Pieces of Domestic Plate, Exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, July to December, 1911 (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1911),p. 67, no. 577, where it is suggested that it is related to the Paine family.
