Description:

Mocha-decorated Pearlware Jug, attributed to Wood & Caldwell, Burslem, Staffordshire, England, 1790-1818, the body with complex layered slip in blue, rust, and black, engine-turned to different depths to create a tricolored checkered effect, the strap handle with splayed foliate terminals, ht. 6 1/2 in.

Note: Wood & Caldwell maintained an office in Boston in 1797.
