Signed and dated "PAUL KELPE/1928" l.l. (beneath the mat) and l.r.
Ink, pastel, and pencil on sandpaper, 13 5/16 x 9 3/16 in., framed.
Condition: Hinged to window mat u.l., adhesive residue along top edge (also on reverse),tear and loss at u.l. of sheet, small loss at c.r. edge, pinholes in each corner.

Framed dimensions: 15 5/8 x 12 5/8 in.

Sheet was glued to the window mat along the top edge of the recto. It has mostly come loose and remains attached only at the upper left corner. There is an old tear and loss at the upper left edge just beyond where the sheet is still attached to the window mat, and there is residue of adhesive along the top edge where it had been glued. Three horizontal press marks on the lower half of the paper, the middle one corresponding to the bottom of the composition with two others spaced above and below at 2-1/4 inch intervals. There is also a 1-1/2 inch crease at the c.r. edge. On the reverse, there appears to be some minor surface abrasion along the top edge. Toning overall, and the paper is fragile.
