Description:

Carved Mahogany Serpentine Chest of Drawers, attributed to the cabinet shop of John Townsend, Newport, Rhode Island, c. 1780, the shaped and molded top above the cockbeaded case of four graduated drawers on ogee bracket feet, old brass bail pulls, refinished, ht. 34 1/2, wd. 39 1/2, dp. 21 1/2 in.

Note: The two center drawers marked on backs "BACK," the four drawers inscribed A, B, C, D, notations associated with the work of John Townsend.
