Persian Illuminated Manuscript Leaf Qazvin or Mashad Style c. 1580, Yusuf Rescued from the Well. Single leaf likely from the Shahnameh, text in two columns in black ink, marginal images done in a light wash, mainly birds, flowers, and animals, the opaque gouache painting showing four men, a servant and Yusuf's three brothers, with Yusuf in the well at the right, with flames around his head, the rocks painted in the characteristic stylized form seen in similar manuscripts of this period; hinged to a backed mat, some old tape residue, small break along the bottom frame of the miniature, 9 x 5 1/4 in.
