[Description of the Solemn Order of Entry into the Capital City of Moscow and Solemn Coronation of Empress Elizabeth]. St. Petersburg: Imperial Academy of Sciences, 1744. First edition, folio, engraved full-length portrait frontispiece, engraved title, 168 pages of text; illustrated with forty-nine plates, many double-page and folding; bound in contemporary leather, with marbled paper endleaves; folding plates with some discoloration, many folding plates torn and repaired with tape, with discolorations from the tape; binding badly worn, lacking the spine, sewing structure somewhat compromised, a good candidate for restoration, 17 1/2 x 11 in.
Elizabeth's coronation was a grand affair, celebrated over almost two months between February and April, 1742. This fete book records the details of the various ceremonies, with engravings of the royal crown (which Elizabeth is said to have placed on her own head),scepters, thrones, several large folding plates of royal processions, and a mezzotint of the fireworks display.
