London: Strahan & Cadell, 1773-1785. A complete set of Cook's three voyages in eight large quarto volumes with the oversized folio atlas volume illustrated with two large folding maps and sixty-one engraved plates, without the rare Death of Cook plate, found in only a few copies [for this plate, see lot 511]; the first and third voyages in the second edition; second voyage in the first edition; text volumes illustrated throughout with 152 maps and plates; bound in uniform contemporary diced russia, with elaborately gilt spines with dark blue and light green labels, and roll-tool decorated boards; ex libris William Clark, with his bookplate; slight wear at top and bottom of some spines, one headcap chipped, some outer joints carefully mended, atlas volume rebacked; some contemporary annotations in the text, a few clean tears in the second voyage; some faint water staining in the atlas volume, most plates marked in brown ink on verso with two initials; text volumes: 11 1/4 x 9 in., atlas volume: 21 3/4 x 15 1/2 in.
