Caldecott, Randolph (1846-1886) The Diverting History of John Gilpin, with Autograph Letter and Drawing Signed, 1 January 1880. With approximately eighteen other illustrated children's and chap books concerned with the John Gilpin story, 19th-20th century; in the letter, Caldecott says, "It is I who have made these Picture Books for the Young. I am glad you have noticed them," with a sketch of a portly man in a top hat with a walking stick, and "Happy New Year" written across his vest, sizes of volumes vary.
