Mark Sittich von Hohenems, Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg (1574-1619) Secretarial Letter Signed, 5 September 1616. Four page letter inscribed over a folio-format laid paper bifolium, with original addressed sealed self-envelope. To Archduke Ferdinand (1578-1637) [the later Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II], politely if categorically refusing military assistance, admonishing him for raiding and pillaging the Venetian territory of Pontebba, and declaring his current neutrality in the conflict. Generally very good with old folds, the envelope torn when it was opened, 12 3/4 x 8 1/4 in.
