John Harrison Mahogany Longcase Clock, Newcastle, United Kingdom, c. 1790, pierced lattice scroll-top case with cast brass rosettes and central inlaid plinth, dentil frieze at the cornice and freestanding fluted columns with Corinthian capitals flanking the composite brass dial with silvered roman numeral chapter ring flanked by brass spandrels, center zone with engraved decoration and day-of-the-month calendar indicated by a small hand, and maker's boss in the arch engraved John Harrison/Newcastle, painted moon's age dial with roman chapter high and low tides indicated by two brass hands, dentil moldings along the cove-molding over the waist section with tombstone-shaped door flanked by chamfered inlaid columns with six-pointed star at the center, the base with banded and line inlays all on a low ogee-foot base, eight-day time and hour strike movement with two weights and seconds beating pendulum, ht. 91 in.
