U.S. Model 1878 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle and Bayonet, c. 1886, serial number 345783, walnut stock with a cartouche on the left side of the stock, marked on the lockplate "U.S./SPRINGFIELD," and on the trapdoor "U.S./MODEL/1878," bayonet marked "U.S." on the blade, overall lg. 52 in.
