Pair of James Woodward & Sons Snap-action Sidelock 12 Gauge Double-barrel Shotgun "The Automatic" in Maker's Case, c. 1874-79, serial numbers 3651 and 3652, walnut stocks with finely checkered forends and grips, the frames with finely engraved foliate scroll design, the undersides marked "THE/AUTOMATIC/WOODWARD'S/PATENT," the plate engraved "J. WOODWARD & SONS," Damascus barrels with plain rib engraved "the Automatic JAMES WOODWARD & SONS 64 ST JAMES'S STREET LONDON" and numbered "1" and "2," with maker's leather-covered oak case with accessories, overall lg. 47 1/2 in.
