The Storm. Signed and dated "R. WINSLOW '95" l.l. Oil on canvas, 36 x 21 in., in the original frame. Condition: Probable old retouch, craquelure, surface grime.
N.B. The original painting The Storm was commissioned by Catharine Lorillard Wolfe, inspired by her admiration for Cot's Springtime, owned by her cousin, hardware tycoon and art patron John Wolfe. The Storm, which was immensely popular and reproduced extensively, entered the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, by bequest of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe in 1887.
