Frank Weston Benson (American, 1862-1951)

Pointer Dog, 1925, one of three D proofs (Paff, 251). Signed "FrankWBenson." in pencil l.l., pencil annotations to lower margin. Etching on laid paper, plate size 5 7/8 x 7 7/8 in. (14.8 x 19.8 cm), unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Margins 1 1/2 inches or more, deckled edges to three sides, fingerprints to margins.

Provenance: Descended within the family of the artist.

N.B. There were five proof states made prior to the final published state. This fourth state maintains the horizon line that all but disappears in the final version, as well as thicker grass beneath and behind the dog.
