Inscription on the reverse reads: "Charles Louis Durant, Lieutenant Colonel in the Swifts Regiments of Des Portes in the service of Victor-Amédée King of Sardeign. Son of the Rev'd Paul Durant of the reformed Protestant Church at Gallargues in the Province of Languedoc, France. He died at Rolle on the Lake of Geneva, in Switzerland, 18th August 1746."
Patch reinforcement on the back of the canvas, the retouch is old, and faded when seen under black light.
