Description:

Tin-glazed Earthenware Sugar Basin and Cover, England, c. 1720-30, probably Brislington, cylindrical shape with flat-dome cover and turnip finial, polychrome decorated with cottages in a landscape setting, ht. 6, dia. 4 5/8 in.

Provenance: From the Troy Chappell Collection; Ginsburg & Levy.

Literature: Illustrated in Ceramics in America-2001, The Chipstone Foundation, p. 194, fig. 9.
Estimate $3,000-5,000

Cover: 1/4 and 7/8" rim chips; two glaze chips to rim and tip of finial; 3 1/4" hairline.
Basin: Glaze loss surrounding top rim and with numerous rim chips; museum restoration of a crack that goes down one side and encircles the base. Chips surrounding footrim.
