Two Tin-glazed Earthenware Plates, England, c. 1730-40, a Bristol plate with polychrome chinoiserie decoration of alternating floral and crosshatched border surrounding a central figure of a Chinaman seated and gesturing to feed a flying bird in a fenced landscape; and a London plate with blue trim lines to an orange-red decorated border with alternating hatch and flowers surrounding a central urn with floral bouquet flanked by flying insects; each dia. 8 3/4 in.
Provenance: From the Troy Chappell Collection; Chinaman plate ex collection D.M. & P. Manheim.
Estimate $600-800
Chinaman: Typical rim chips and scattered glaze loss. Patch misfired to the glaze.
Bouquet: 1/2" rim chip; the rim with considerable glaze loss; glaze crazed throughout and with a craze hairline running approximately 2 1/2" from the rim.
