Description:

George III Sterling Silver Tea Caddy, London, 1766-67, maker's mark "RC" probably for Robert Cox, with a floriform finial on a tapering rectangular body chased throughout with C-scrolls and foliate sprays, central rocaille cartouche enclosing an engraved monogram, ht. 5 1/2 in., approx. 11.5 troy oz.

Provenance: The Estate of Hugh Trumbull Adams, to benefit the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Collections Acquisitions Fund.

Rubbed loss to detail on surface, some raised areas rubbed through silver surface (see images),fairly unobtrusive from exterior, one with lead solder fill. Engraved cartouche with small dent, rubbed loss, evidence of a larger engraved armorial (silver surface still strong). Scattered very minor dents, one foot bent very slightly (rocks slightly). Lacquered.
