Description:
British School, 19th Century
The Nave looking to the West, (likely the interior of the 1862 International Exposition, London). Unsigned, titled l.c. Ink on paper, sight size 11 x 8 in., framed. Condition: Not examined out of frame.
N.B. A notation on the frame backing references an inscription on an old mat for this work, giving the date of 1848 and stating "From Turner Sketch Portfolio, Sold in N.Y.C. 1941-44." The inscription around the dome and the detailing of the architecture, however, support the idea that this drawing shows the interior of the 1862 London Exposition, rather than the earlier Crystal Palace Exposition of 1851.
Estimate $150-250
