Attributed to Tiffany Studios Mushroom Lamp Base
Patinated bronze
New York, early 20th century
Round base ribbed like the gills of a mushroom, waisted stem with stylized leaf-form panels, three sockets, bottom plate with marks is missing, "C" stamped in bottom rim, ht. 16 in.
Note: The C possibly stands for E.F. Caldwell and Co. which provided bases to Tiffany Studios.
Provenance: Purported to have been purchased from the estate of Marion Nichols Viles, the daughter of William Nichols of New York, who owned an Elizabethan country house called Applegarth, on Long Island. The house was designed by Renwick, Aspinwall and Owen.
