Edith Catlin Phelps (American, 1875-1961)

Singers of Spirituals. Signed "Edith Catlin Phelps" l.r., identified, titled, and stamped with the artist's name and Santa Barbara address on the canvas tacking edge. Oil on canvas stretched over Masonite, 36 x 30 in., in a frame bearing a tag from Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet, Paris. Condition: Varnish discoloration, surface grime.

Provenance: Sold to benefit the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, Provincetown, Massachusetts.
