Five Photographs or Cards Framed Together, third quarter 19th century, four photographs of gentlemen, two with visible "Walter" marks, surrounding the central printed image of the ironclad "Virginia or Merrimac.," also marked "Walter," overall 25 3/4 x 17 1/2 in., including frame.

Note: This is the only known carte-de-visite of the Virginia, and the gentlemen pictured here are her pilots during the Battle of Hampton Roads.
