Provenance: Ex-collection Penelope Rockwell, Worcester, Massachusetts, and Madison, Connecticut.
N.B. The work has been reviewed by the Comité Vlaminck, and it will be included in the Vlaminck catalogue raisonné; a letter accompanies the lot. The sale of this lot will benefit the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, Massachusetts.
The certificate from the Wildenstein Institute (Comité Vlaminck) accompanies the lot and suggests the title "La Route."
A May 3, 2016, email from Julien Roussard, director of the Centre d'Études sur les Peintres à Montmartre, stated that this watercolor was reproduced as a lithograph by Valminck in 1957/58 at Mourlot Studio. The lithograph is published in the book Vlaminck by Pierre MacOrlan. The lithograph measures 31 x 47 cm and is referenced in the Catalogue raisonné Walterskirchen as number 273.
