Stanley William Hayter (British, 1901-1988)

Viol de Lucrèce, 1934, edition of 30 (Black & Moorhead, 86). Signed and dated "SWHayter 1934" in pencil l.r., titled in pencil l.c., numbered "29/30" in pencil l.l. Engraving and soft ground on paper, plate size 11 1/2 x 14 1/4 in. (29.0 x 36.0 cm), framed.
Condition: Toning, rippling, mat burn, several fox marks, not examined out of frame.
Estimate $300-500

Sheet measures 19 x 21 3/4 in. (48.3 x 55.3 cm) and appears to be trimmed. The mat burn is minor, and the fox marks are in the u.c and c.r. margins. Sheet is hinged to overmat at u.c. There is a 1" vertical tear in the margin at u.c. Soiling and staining to the verso. Hinge remnants/residue on verso u.r., u.l., and l.c.
