The Virgin Surrounded by Many Angels, 1518, printed c. 1590 (Bartsch, 101; Hollstein, 211 B/B; Meder, 211 A or B/G). Monogrammed and dated within the block. Woodcut on laid paper wih two-headed eagle watermark, image size 11 3/4 x 8 3/8 in. (29.6 x 21.2 cm),framed.
Condition: Trimmed to borderline, vertical breaks to block visible in impression, repairs to lower corners of image, horizontal crease.
Estimate $1,800-2,200
The crease runs all the way across the image, passing through the legs of the child. It has been stablized on the reverse. There are some breaks to the paper fibers along it.
