Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1890, flat-top case with four brass finials surrounding the hinged repoussé dome lid picturing "Father Time" and winged serpents for accessing the mechanism, six repoussé scrolled floral decorated panels surrounding the tombstone-shaped door, composite brass dial with a Roman numeral silvered chapter ring, chime/silent, slow/fast, and Westminster Chimes/Eight Bells Chime subsidiary dials in arch, applied cast brass spandrels, blued-steel pierced hands, and silvered boss reading as above, similar decorated side panels marked JC Jennens London, and serpent-style bail handles, all resting on four scrolled feet, eight-day, three-train fusee movement with gong strike, and quarter-chime on nine bells movement with engraved back plate and pendulum, with repeat on demand, ht. 26 in.
