Snelling Painted "Act of Parliament" Clock, Alton, Hampshire England, c. 1785, the painted pine case with black ground, gilt scrollwork, lower door with applied portrait of a woman in a red dress, 24-in. three-piece painted oak Roman numeral dial with valence below signed Snelling/Alton, trapezoidal-shaped brass time-only movement with teardrop-shaped steel counterbalanced hands, recoil escapement, rear-hung pendulum and lead weight, ht. 56 in.

Painted surface apparently subjected to attic heat as it is raised and separated, paint loss on dial, applied picture of woman is a later addition, original hands, weight and pendulum, key with clock but handle is broken, hands are patinated brass not steel.
