Dominick & Haff Sterling Silver Two-handled Loving Cup, New York, 1881, Theodore Starr, retailer, square, decorated in the Aesthetic taste with a dragonfly over various water plants to either side on a hammered ground, the underside engraved with a presentation inscription: "J.R. Mowbray M.D./from/his friends/John and Lydia M. Haven/November 19th 1881.," ht. 6 1/4 in., approx. 28.6 troy oz.
Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Mowbray to the current consignor. A photograph of John Havens and a handwritten letter from John Havens to Dr. Mowbray about the cup accompanies the lot.
