N.B. The scene depicts the Old Testament story of Bathsheba at her toilette, receiving a messenger from King David summoning her to the palace (2 Samuel 11). The work is thought to be a 19th century copy.
The work is painted on pre-primed canvas, suggesting it is a 19th century work, at the earliest.
