Late Victorian Regency-style Carlton House Desk, England, late 19th century, overall painted with scenes of putti and maidens, arabesque floral and foliate vine tendrils, and musical instruments, with a curved superstructure highlighted by a pierced brass gallery with six drawers and three compartment doors, two sloping compartment covers, over a slide-out gilt-tooled leather writing surface and a frieze with three drawers, all supported on tapered legs on casters, ht. 39 5/8, wd. 48 1/2, dp. 26 1/4 in.
Pull out writing surface slightly bowed with related cracking/restoration to veneer. Scattered minor veneer cracks, nicks, warping, and restorations throughout (particularly to edge molding and curved elements). Sloped compartments at either side with cracks, minor lifting to veneer, one with chipped loss to corner and edge. Concave door to upper compartment and rounded elements to back side with cracks to panels (one to back left panel slightly more noticeable with related popping to veneer).
