Description:

Agate Ware Teapot and Cover, England, c. 1740-50, probably Staffordshire, squat bulbous form with rolled loop handle and octagonal spout, rust and cream-colored clays with splashed blue glaze, ht. 2 7/8 in.

Provenance: Ex collection Thomas C. Hulme; Arthur Edward Clarke; Mrs. J. Marsland Brooke.

Literature: Similar in The Earle Collection of Early Staffordshire Pottery, p. 36, illus. 44.
Estimate $1,800-2,200

Cover: Sizable chips need re-restoring.
Pot: Slight chip to the lip of the spout; hairline to handle.
