Description:

White Salt-glazed Stoneware Camel Teapot and Cover, England, c. 1745, probably Staffordshire, slip cast portrayal of a camel on its knees with a howdah atop its back, the spout modeled as head and neck, scale-decorated scroll handle, ht. 4 3/4, lg. 6 in.

Provenance: Ex Miss D. E. Fletcher collection.

Literature: Identical illustrated in Early Staffordshire Pottery, by Rackham, illus. 40-A.
Estimate $2,500-3,500

Cover: Finial off and simply reglued; several scattered chips including to an edge of finial, near air hole, on rim, and several under rim and to inner collar.
Pot: In very good condition throughout.
