Description:

Two Tin-glazed Earthenware Dishes, England, c. 1740-50, probably London, each polychrome enamel decorated, one with Asian scroll and diaper border surrounding flowers and foliage with floral wheel center, dia. 8 1/2; another with alternating flowerhead and diaper border surrounding a floral basket with insects, dia. 8 5/8 in.

Literature: Wheel center plate with similar illustrated in English Delftware in the Bristol Collection, by Britton, illus. 12.11; floral basket plate with identical example in British Delft at Williamsburg, by J. Austin, illus. 333.
Estimate $700-900

Floral wheel: Heavy glaze loss to rim; hairlines to glaze of surface.
Floral basket: Scattered glaze loss to rim and with several rim chips.
