Description:

Tin-glazed Earthenware Kylin Dish, England, c. 1750-60, probably Bristol, blue decorated with a powder border with alternating square shaped cartouches of flowers and hanging berries surrounding a central motif with central animal standing atop a square pad, a floral vase to one side and flowers to the other, dia. 11 3/4 in.

Literature: Illustrated in Sotheby's sale catalogs, November 17, 1981, Lot 364, and October 20, 1993, Lot 67; an identical dish is illustrated in The Long Collection of Delft & Creamware, by Brears, illus. 65.

Provenance: Ex Lipski collection; Seeger collection.

Scattered age typical surface abrasions to the glaze; edge with heavy glaze loss and a slight rim chip.
