Large Kesi Panel, China, 19th century, woven to depict scenes from Journey to the West, showing Sun Wukong's rebellion against the gods, with several battle scenes and a central vignette showing him seated presiding over a competitive battle, wearing his characteristic phoenix feather headdress, all surrounded by borders containing floral sprigs, bats and peaches, and ritual objects, framed and glazed, sight size 85 x 61 in.
