Export Enameled and Gilt Dragon-and-Phoenix Jar, Japan, 19th century, hu-shape with two S-shape ears to the waisted neck, resting on a splayed stem foot, the body decorated with a dragon on one side and a phoenix on the other in underglaze blue against a red ground of overglaze enamel, two bands of archaic-style pattern and meander design near rim and foot, respectively, a floral-patterned band in turquoise blue around the interior rim, elaborate gilt details, Fukagawa mark in underglaze blue base (drilled),ht. 16 in.
