Description:
Two Carved Wood Lintel Friezes, southern India, a large frieze carved with three roundels with petals, with two stylized birds facing the central roundel, surrounded by carved volutes and leaf-forms, and bordered by geometric carvings, 56 x 17 1/2; and a smaller frieze carved with a central figure of a deity, framed by two elephants and their mahouts and a bird at either side, over openwork carvings of scrolling leaves and flowers, 37 x 8 3/4 in.
Provenance: Formerly in the collection of Arthur L. and Genevieve S. Funk.

severe discoloration to wood, overall age wear and tear, some old chips, age cracks, and minor new chips, heavy surface dirt, carved band partially broken away from the larger one.
