Two Impressions of Waders, 1930, trial proof B-1 and a published state from the edition of 150 (Paff, 298). Both signed "FrankWBenson." in pencil l.l. Drypoints, the former on J. Whatman laid paper, the latter on wove paper, plate size 7 x 12 in. (17.6 x 30.4 cm), unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Both with at least two deckled edges, pencil annotations to lower margins, ink and soiling to margins (more so to the proof).
Provenance: Descended within the family of the artist.
N.B. Comparison of the trial and finished impressions shows the artist in the process of finalizing the composition. The trial proof shows the birds in the distance, with the horizon line and the sky merely sketched in. Most of the birds also lack reflections in the proof.
