Gold and Enamel Box, c.1830s, basse-taille and champleve enamel in white, pink, and blue, depicting a harbor scene, inscribed on lid "Presented to Asa Fitch Jr by Mrs. Douglas Woodworth Fitch who visited America June 1838", Swiss hallmarks, boxed, lg. 3 in.

Note: The Fitch brothers, Asa and Douglas, operated a shipping business between New London, CT and Marseille, France. They exported champagne, cognac, and French fashion items aboard their brig Fils Unique for sale in the United States.
