Admiral Peary Flag from the North Pole Expedition, c. early 20th century, silk machine-stitched flag with embroidered stars and gold silk fringe, with six white silk patches, with postcards related to the event, and an artist's rendering of the original owner of the flag, ht. 24 1/2, wd. 29 3/4 in.

Provenance: By family descent to the consignor.

Note: This flag was given to New York magazine publisher Albert J. Gibney by Admiral Peary. Gibney is thought to be the youngest Spanish American War veteran, enlisting just before his 15th birthday, and served on the USS Detroit. The flag has six white silk patches to replace pieces left to mark the furthest northern points of the Western Hemisphere.
Estimate $15,000-20,000

Flag is in good condition with some small separations and splits from age.
