Carpet Bag Owned by Mason Bowen, Company B, 8th Massachusetts Infantry, c. 1864, carpet-covered bag with linen lining, leather handle, and steel lock, bottom is leather with old labels, one reads: Mason Bowen/Born Oct. 10th 1840/Died Feb 10th, 1930/GAR veteran, Co. B. 8th Mass./Vol. Infy./The first man to enlist in/his Co and the last to/survive., ht. 14 1/2, lg. 20 1/2 in.

Note: Mason Bowen enlisted July 10th, 1864, and was discharged on November 10th, 1864.
