Description:

Confederate Haversack from Eleozer O. Tarrant, Company C, 6th Virginia Infantry, c. 1861-65, twilled cotton drill with wood buttons, an external pocket sewn to the outside, and a cotton strap shortened with a knot, and a twig, with paper notes stating that this might have come from the Lee Museum many years ago.

Provenance: The collection of Denis E. Reen.

Note: Tarrant enlisted in the Confederate service on April 18th, 1861, at Norfolk, Virginia. He was wounded at the battle of Malvern Hill on July 1st, 1862, and was captured at Petersburg, Virginia on October 17th, 1864, and was released on May 14th, 1865. Photocopies of his service records, and letters accompany the lot.

Has some age consistent wear from use, and a few holes in the bottom of the bag, and some staining.
