French .800 Silver and Parcel-gilt Chess Set, late 19th/early 20th century, bearing maker's mark "G Fres" possibly for Guillemin Frères, one side depicting parcel-gilt Christian players, the other parcel-gilt and bronzed Moorish players, ht. to 3 5/8; the chess board with lapis lazuli and marble playing surface framed by gilt-bronze mounts, with two frieze drawers enclosing a fitted interior, 20 3/8 x 20 3/8 in.

Scattered rubbed loss to raised areas of gilding, bronzed surfaces. Some players lacking felt to underside. Bases are weighted (cannot be weighed). Some players with pitting to bases, not affecting bust or face, particularly to Queens. Each King is 3 1/2 inches tall. Chess board with chipped losses to two corners (one very small area to a lapis corner, the other more noticeable loss to marble corner of same side). Scattered areas of loss to wood molding (some pieces present),minor nicks and abrasions to edge. Some lifting to bronze elements.
