Russian Icon of Pokrov Mother of God, the kovcheg panel depicting the Madonna at the center with Christ above her and surrounded by a gathering of saints, all within a Byzantine-style building to a cream-painted ground, with various labels to reverse, 11 7/8 x 9 3/4 in.

Scattered worming to panel. Panel warped with related cracking to center. Scattered retouch and over-painting throughout (see images). Loss to majority of gilded elements particularly border. Slats to back replaced. Craquelure, lifting and scattered losses to painted surface. Nicks and abrasions, particularly to edge of panel.
