Description:

Miniature Portrait Bifolium, India, 18th/19th century, ink, color, and gold on paper, depicting Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, each holding a rose in one hand and in matching highly ornamented dress, a palace wall behind decorated in the style of pietra dura inlaid marble, with a window with a view into a garden, a panel of calligraphy above each portrait on each page, the reverse with a single column of calligraphy on each page, framed and glazed, sight size 9 1/4 x 11 1/2 in.

taped down center on reverse, losses and wear to edges of paper, minor gilt and pigment loss allover, some smaller areas of major paint loss.
