Signed or inscribed "ABierstadt" l.r., inscribed "White Mts. N.H." on the reverse.
Oil on cardboard, 7 3/4 x 13 1/4 in. (19.5 x 33.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Small paint loss to center.
Tiny flake/loss measuring 1/16 inch diameter in red fiery sky; small area of retouch, measuring 1/4 inch in diameter, located to the left of the aformentioned loss, probably a minor, old restoration; 3 or 4 small dots/accretions to c.l. edge; front of paperboard is stuck to the inside top lip of the frame at the u.r. corner. Paint is thinly applied, with areas of fine stable craquelure and possible drying cracks to l.l. In a modern frame with linen liner: 13 1/4 x 18 3/4 in.
There is a similar artwork in the collection of the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma, that is titled "Forest Fire, White Mountains, New Hampshire," unsigned, oil on paper, measuring 11 x 15 inches.
