Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975)
Prayer Meeting, alternatively titled Wednesday Evening, 1949, edition of 300, published by the University of Kansas City, Kansas City, Missouri (Fath, 73). Signed "Benton" in pencil l.r. and within the matrix, inscribed "KCU" (reversed) within the matrix. Lithograph on paper, image size 9 x 12 3/8 in. (22.8 x 31.3 cm),unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Margins over 1 1/4 inches, subtle toning.
Provenance: Descended within the family of Henry Edwards Scott, Jr., Martha's Vineyard. Scott was thehead of the art department at the University of Kansas City (now the University of Missouri) from the end of World War II until his retirement in 1972. In 1950 he organized an exhibition of Benton's paintings for the university.

Sheet measures 12 x 16 inches. Slight discoloration/staining at very edges. Subtle ink transfer on verso. Minor handling crimps.
